Finding Your First Trade
Once you login you need to navigate to the “Stock Finder” page where you will be able to see all the stocks for the latest generated dataset.
Here is a link you can right click and open in a new tab on your browser: https://cranecapllc.wpengine.com/stock-finder/
Please note: If you click on the images in this tutorial you will need to click the “back button” on your browser to return to this tutorial to continue.
Once you are on the Stock Finder page you can select which dataset you would like to look at, by default the most recent dataset will be selected automatically:
The next selector is the number of dividend events in the dataset. The default value is 6 dividends:
The defaults for these selectors are perfectly fine to get started but in case you already know the dataset time period and date you are interested you can make that selection.
Now that those items are setup we can start filtering the stock list for the selected dataset. If you scroll down you will see the first 10 tickers listed in alphabetical order by default. If you would like to scroll through more than the first 10 tickers you can choose to see 25, 50 or 100 tickers per page:
You can filter the ticker list by any of the column on this page. One really useful filter is to filter the results using the column titled “Max %Gain”. You can do this by left-clicking on the column titled “Max %Gain” as shown below:
If you scroll to the far right of the page you will see a column titled “Dividend Frequency”.
This will give you a quick reference to see if the ticker has a Monthly or Quarterly dividend. For the Monthly dividend stocks the results shown are for the previous 6 dividends which is a time period of 6 months. For the Quarterly dividend stocks the results shown for the previous 6 dividends which is a time period of 6 quarters. You should be aware of this because that is a very large difference in time period, 6 quarters is roughly 18 months vs 6 months for the monthly tickers.
If you already know the ticker you would like to see the results for you can type the ticker symbol in the search field to narrow the results to that ticker:
After you have found the ticker you are interested in you can generate graphs to visualize the data by clicking on the graph buttons for “Max %Gain Buy 2-14” and “%Gain User Buy Date”:
The “Max %Gain Buy 2-14” graph will show you the breakdown for what the maximum returns were for buying on 2-14 trading days before the Ex-Dividend date and selling on 1 trading day before the Ex-Dividend date for the previous 6 months:
The “%Gain User Buy Date” graph will show you the breakdown for what the maximum returns were for buying on the currently selected “User Buy Date” the default selector setting is 14 trading days before the Ex-Dividend date and selling on 1 trading day before the Ex-Dividend date for the previous 6 months:
If you would like to see the breakdown for a different “User Buy Date” you can select any value between 2 and 14 trading days at the top of the page:
You have now successfully viewed the 6 month dataset for $PCI!
Please continue browsing the datasets as we have datasets for 1,2,3,6,12, and 24 dividends events for every ticker we support. Please note again that 24 dividend events for a monthly dividend stock is a period of 24 months but for a quarterly stock this is 24 quarters or 24 x 3 = 72 months.
If you don’t see your favorite ticker in the list of supported tickers please email me at: mdcrane@cranecapital.net
We will update the site to support the tickers that you need the most.
